I would like to sincerely thank my betas, Gabri_Jade and rhonderoo, for their generous time, effort, and advice on this piece.

You two are wonderful!

And many more thanks to rhonderoo for the beautiful cover art.

Yay, it's in! You know how much I love this story, Traci. It really shows the dark, gritty side of the GFFA in general and Mara's Emperor's Hand duties in particular, but still keeps that vintage SW feel. Mara's characterization is just perfect. It can be tricky to balance the hardened assassin mindset with the innate compassion Mara never truly lost, but you got it just right here. Vader's appearance and reactions are a fantastic bonus; he's written beautifully. And Esme is a very believably drawn and three-dimensional original character; it's easy for the reader to care about her. Absolutely wonderful in every detail. I'm so glad to see it in the Archive. :D

And great cover art, Rhonda! It definitely does the story justice. :D

Nice to see this up - and I agree, this is a great Mara portrayal with an original, but GFFA believable, set-up.

Interesting. I think my favorite thing was Vader's character. Very nicely done.

This is a terrific look at the essence of Mara -- the kindness that gets buried under the steely exterior. I especially like how she earns the respect of Vader. It's a great story, and it's a treat to see it in the archives!

Wonderful! You captured Mara so well - she's ruthless but not without a heart. And you subtly worked in Vader's compassion as well. Great work.

Great short. Wonderful portrayal of the characters and their nuances. An interesting follow-up might a reunion fic with an older Jedi Mara. Keep writing.

Great story. The writing was original and the depiction of not only the "old west/ frontier" type feeling of Star Wars but truly captured my imagination. Honestly I have read Star Wars books that were not so interesting as this. Thanks!

{Left alone, Mara studied the gown already laid out for her on the bed. Apparently, her "companion" for the night had an affinity for black silk and jewels. The dress was decorated with them in what would be suggestive designs once donned by a human female.

Mara pulled a face and headed into the refresher, muttering, "Time to get this over with."}

*raises eyebrows* Yeah, like YOU don't wear any suggestive clothing, Mara. Nope, not at all.

And I thought this was a recent fanfic <_< I guess I thought wrong.

Love the cover art. Gillian Anderson would make a much better Mara Jade than Shannon Baska.
