I loved this story. You portrayed Padmé's character so well. The reader can truly sense her fear for the lives of her friends as well as her bravery and staunch determination to find out why Anakin has become what he has become.

An enjoyable read, Geo. Shades of Vader's declaration: You cannot understand the power of the Dark Side. I like how he didn't answer the question of what is more powerful than love.

Well written and carefully thought out. I like the story, but several key factors were a bit off I think. #1 being that I highly doubt the Padme' had an affinity with the Force so training her would not have been possible. # 2 is that Anakin should have already been in the armor. Still though, VERY entertaining and VERY well written. Keep it up.

Wow. You know... chances are good that your story may be better than the most dramatic non-vfx scene in Episode 3, if Lucas' writing didn't improve since Ep1 and 2. XD

Geo, I really loved this fic. What really struck me -- odd as it may seem -- was the ending, where Vader destroyed a starship to protect Padmé. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I believe that was very in character for him. I love it when authors master a character like you've done. Your writing is superb. Excellent!
(Darthy Vader: that guy on the cover as Anakin...it's Anakin. That's Hayden Christensen, who played in Attack of the Clones. :P )

Yes. I also had tears in my eyes. So convincing, so real. This is more like how it should have been. Not that disapointing idea that Vader had something to do with how Padme died, as someone put in the spoilers section. It mirrors other Star Wars stories. It shows that Anakin still has good in him, and subconsciously he still does the will of the Force by letting her go. Of course he will not kill her! The dialogue is beautiful ...totally lifelike, realistic, feasible. And contrary ot what a lot of these unimaginative others say ,NO, Vader should NOT already be in his freakin' armor before he becomes the Dark Lord. And it totally jibes that before the Civil War, he would be this mysterious person whose name is spoken of in whispers. No one knows who he really is, that sort of thing. The part about the hood, Anakin's face, his change of personality after his conversion ...like who says it has to be after the freakin' accident and the suit? He IS Vader before the suit, and IS the Dark Lord, and there has to be moments he would have shown his human face before the accident, and it only mnakes sense that he would spare padme's life provided she and her friends did not interfere with his Master's bidding that he so blindly believes in. His devotional service to the Dark Side is what changed him, not the freakin' accident. The accident just made him even more evil and less human, but that same mechanical persona ...don't you see? That was already beginning before the accident. It does conflict with an idea of mine that part of why he and Obi-Wan fought was because he suspected Obi-Wan had something to od with Padme being missing. But that's OK, because I like this better! It's like he made a deal with his ex-wife to let her go ...you feel urged to say to her "Go! Go! Don't question it, run!" She on her side, he on his. It proves his future [plan was still to kill Palpatine later, and rhymes with that. Magnificent. And seeming like it really was in a past time too. I hope it really is like this in the movie. THis is the best idea I have ever heard. Of course Padme is going to know Anakin is Vader.

This was fabulous Geo. No wonder all the Defenders got excited about it! The characterization of Padme was excellent... and Anakin/Vader- that's not the popular opinion, but it makes so much more sense that way. I loved what you did with him. Beautifully written.

An incredible story. It very much deserves to be formally published by LucasBooks. I hope to see it in a future issue of Star Wars Insider or a short story collection. This story adds rich, layered emotion and insight to perhaps one of the most pivotal and important aspects in the entire Star Wars saga: that of Anakin's turn to the dark side and the upheval (both emotion and physical) that it unleashes. It perhaps ranks along with Vader's revelation that he is Luke's father. Hint, hint Mr. Lucas and Sally Shapiro: this one is a winner. Publish it!

Padmé’s imponderable reserves of inner strength runs through this story from start to finish. Even crying on her knees in front of the man that used to be her husband, her spirit is unbroken. She is wounded, she is scarred, but even in the midst of her despair, her loyalty to those that serve her, more than to her own self, will continue to give her strength.
And as for the Dark Lord, he has reconciled himself to his destiny as the damned and yet the love that he denies is the crux of this entire story.
A story told with a strong sense of its characters.

Very good.. very well thought out and the characterzations were on the money.. great job.. I loved the ending where Anakin/Vader blew up the republic/empire ship.. I have enever been one to beleive Ankin would ever harm Padme' that the order for termination had to have come from Palpatine. She could bring him back from the darkside if anyone could. )besides Luke that is)
Kudos Mark

That was fantastic. Very well done. I am glad to read it before events of Episode III can contradict anything. :)
For me the most powerful moment in this powerful story was when 'The Dark Lord' turned and said, "Don’t look back," with this we know that Anakin is in there somewhere still, with the same admonition at a final parting that was given him by Shmi.
I rated it a 10.

Once again, great writing from you! You make the incredibly strong emotions here so poignant. This line: 'She felt like an insect stuck on a pin when he looked at her.' was such a wonderfully written image. I knew exactly the kind of feeling you were describing. And the last line literally gave me chills.
