Author checking in. :D I wanted to say thank you to my lovely betas, Gabri_Jade and LianaMara. Gabri especially - this story would not have been written without your constant encouragement (and harrassment).

Just a little author's note - I wrote this well before the release of Ep. III, and since I went spoiler-free, anything that doesn't quite fit with what we now know ... well, that's why. Otherwise, I know it's very AU, but it's fun twisting the SW universe in on itself. ;)

Congratulations on getting this archived, oba! From the first scene you showed me way back when, I knew this would be one of the best fanfics I'd ever see. I was right; it's as near perfection as any fanfic I've ever read, and easily as good as many professionally published stories. The alternate reality you've built is believable and compelling, the plot beautifully twisted and intricate, and the characterization never falters - no mean feat with a story as AU as this. Thanks for the ride, dearest. I wouldn't trade it for anything - even if you did torment me along the way. :p

I normally avoid radical AU fanfic - especially epic/novel length ones, but this... this was very, very well done. The controlled writing - balancing gracefully on that tightrope between soap-opera and documentary - just beautiful.

The philosophical discussions on the Force's Light and Dark sides also rang very true - in fact, this fic almost seems borne of a deeply personal philosophy very closely related to the Force's. Amazing work!

(Title could have used a little tweaking though - shades of Britney Spears' "Drive Me Crazy" come to mind.)

This was a brilliant story with some lovely detail (the excerpts) and universe weaving (the AU elements) that made the foundation story all the more fun! I literally could not put this story down. Thank you for sharing this! I would buy the book!

I've been reading the fanfics on this site for ages but this is the first one I've ever commented on.
I joined up specially to say how much I loved this story. It's so much better than any of the books I've read that it's not funny. You have somehow recreated the believabilty I felt from the original Star Wars trilogy. Something I personally felt the new movies and many of the books have lacked. I literally couldn't stop reading it (which was unfortunate since I had school today and I didn't start till about 11 last night).
Thank you for the best 4 hours reading I've experienced in a long time.

P.S. Please write a sequel. A new take on the struggle with the Yuuzhan Vong would be really refreshing.

without a shawdow of a doubt this is probably the best AU fanfic I have ever read! the interaction between Luke and Mara was superb. Their intamate moments very heart felt... Luke's pain at the loss of his father felt real as I read it.. you captured the emotions very well and had me right from the first word

excellent job I gave you a 10. I wished it could have been a 12

I don't know what to say, Oba, but this is probably one of my favorite Star Wars fics of all time.

Even fanfic aside, this is such an excellent work of writing -- you deserve a big pat on the back.

Firstly, thanks to Gabri_Jade for recommending this fic to me. I was doing some research for that romance workshop and needed some good fics and passages and Gabri told me about this. I printed out the story and basically spent most of my free time today reading it.

Oba, lovely, lovely story. I really enjoyed how you created this AU world and yet made it still dovetail so nicely with canon. Very nicely done.

And then the romance... * excuse me while I shake down the last of the shivers * So subtle and gentle and yet so powerful at the same time. I thought it to be a beautiful dance between the two of them and loved how you brought their romance to fruition.

And the little twist at the end was great!

Incredible! At the risk of sounding like a parrot, I must echo the sentiments of the many comments before me: An excellent story told in an excellent way. I've never really gotten into AU, but the way you dove right in, and gradually built up the universe, carefully blending your AU elements with those of canon, created a lovely, believable story that I almost feel should have happened. Wow!

This material is definitely professional caliber. (In fact, much "professional" fiction isn't this well done.)

Just as an aside, this is the first fanfic on this site that I have commented on. That's how powerful this fic is.

I am in awe of the AU story you have told. My compliments.

That said, I would love to see you go back and hack at it a bit. Eliminate quite a bit of repetition in the late early to middle part. Not the ones necessary to bring the reader back to previous events. Just eliminate the redundant. That will tighten up your story big time. The result will truly be awesome story!
