wow, that was great. It blew my mind about how the Jedi have inadvertently worn their numbers away, starting with the decision not to love. i would love to see more stories following this plot, mainly the steps that obi-wan takes to hand the galaxy back over to the light side. Kudos!

Somehow, the theory that Anakin killing Palpatine brought balance to the Force and thus fulfilled the prophecy, never convinced me entirely. It seemed a very roundabout way accomplish something. Your perspective of "balance" is very interesting and refreshing. As is the theory of depelting the gene pool. Go on, I'd like to see how Obi-Wan gets involved in the Rebellion :).

Your story brought up a strong view that I have always believed in: that all of Anakin's actions were meant to "cleanse" the Jedi by giving rise to the Sith, whereby the Jedi would rise again in a new form, as better servants of the Force. I did find your part about marriage among the Jedi interesting, but it did underscore the key point about letting students following their own path, which works with the new Jedi philosophy discussed in The Unifying Force.

I like the idea of this. The jedi being diluted by outcasts children. Very good thought process. To be honest I think this is better than most of the storyline for ep 3.. at least its original. What I would really like to see is who tells you this when you become one with the force. And what else should ppl be knowing. Very good work, thank you for writing it.

At last! Someone else who espouses these ideas.

The first thing I thought about 'bringing balance to the Force' in TPM was that Qui-Gon had forgotten just in whose favour the balance had been shifted for a long time.

Two powerful Sith, two powerful Jedi then the end in Luke who was too dark in some ways to be a prequel Jedi and yet too light to be a Sith.

I've also noted the culling of Force powers out of the population by over-enthusiastic espousal of the 'no attachments' policy, especially when there is talk of the decline of Jedi numbers before the Purge.

On the other hand, if you follow EU canon, then Obi-Wan has every right to be doubly annoyed. Not only was he almost 'culled' from the herd, but he gave up Siri for the Jedi when he's now being told that the Force would have welcomed two such strong Jedi breeding. ;>

Wow. That is amazing. I'd never even thought about the fact that the Jedi would technically be slowly reducing their numbers maintaining the ideals that they did. I'd always thought that the Force was rather random, but then again, it's obvious genetic-ness doesn't really fit with that now does it? ^^

I had noticed the Force-balance thing though. In a way, Anakin balances the Force twice. First by evening the numbers to two Masters and two Apprentices, and then later briefly by getting rid of the last Master. I'd always just assumed that the balance the prophecy spoke of was the one that happened at the end of his life, not the Jedi-purge bit. Ah, well..

That really was great. From the general idea, to Obi-Wan's reaction at being told to think of the problem as if he had a herd of Banthas, to the explanation of why he didn't end Anakin's suffereing on Mustafar, which was something my mom really wanted to be explained.. Excellent fic.

Great story... I always loved the theories about Jedi attachments in the Old Republic, how maybe they got it wrong the whole time. And Qui-Gon and Tahl, and Obi-Wan and Siri. Have you read the new "Last of the Jedi" series? It talks about some of the rebellion aspects you brought up. I really liked your story, it could have been straight from one of those books.

ok good stuff man and i like some of your theorys on how the force was balanced but true balance wasnt achieved untill vaders grandson jacen did it in the final book of the njo series which if u havent read i highly recomend the entire series

Great story! I love how it connects the movies with the expanded universe! I think that the authors writing the NJO books should start incorporating some of these ideas.

Beautiful story. We all wonder what exactly Qui Gon told Obi Wan in Tatooine. You have described quite well your vision of that encounter. And I could imagine Qui Gon saying such things to his former apprentice.
Really well written.
One can see Obi Wan finding solace.

first let me say, that you did an amazing job in writing the story. The way Obi-Wan and Jinn speak is really well done, they sound perfectly in character.

But, there's one question I have. The whole "culling the herd" issue, reminds me terribly of the "breed apart" issue in "Wheel of time". While I concurr with you, that Anakin brought balance to the force by whiping out the Jedi order (2 Sith/ 2 Jedi = Balance), I am not really convinced that the order got weaker from generation to generation and lesser in numbers. (As it was with the Aes Sedai of WoT)

Excellent fic! And you voiced a thought that I, and I'm sure many others have had. If midichlorians reside in your blood I can't fail to see how they wouldn't be handed down genetically. The idea that the force randomly appeared in individuals is a weak and implausible one.
Also thank you for cheering me about certain post-ROTJ Jedi facts, I always felt sad about the loss of the old Jedi ways but this fic does justify it well for me. :3

Very good, before TPM lots of the EU fiction had lots of Jedi families and other characters with jedi ancestors in them (corran horn etc). its never made any sense to me why the whole marriage thing was forbidden anyway. great story!
