Wonderful story! I really enjoyed reading it--it was very original and interesting. I like the idea of Anakin becoming somebody other than Darth Vader. I like how you have written this story from the point of view of a child who does not know the history of the 'Hero with No Fear' and of the Jedi. It makes me wonder what happened to all of the other Star Wars characters.
Excellent job!

Definitely an interesting idea to have Anakin transition to someone other than Darth Vader. Or maybe he was, then found himself? That's what is fun about reading pieces like this - trying to fill in the blanks. No matter, I like that you kept Anakin a tragic, lonely figure even though his life went on another path than canon.

O My Gosh. Wow. When I read the part where he's giving the boy the holocron and that whole part I put my hand over my mouth and said "No. No.....that's too sad!" Great job...great job.

Wow... That's all I can say. Just wow. That was incredible. Really effective. Really sad. I nearly cried. "He gave them the gift of a childhood" -my favorite part. You write really well. It was a unique idea, too, and I really enjoyed "what might have happened"

Great story. Loved how Anakin didn't become Vader. Just one question, what happened to his kids?

That was unbelievably fantastic. Just like the children, I was entranced right up until the end of the story. You used the uncertainity of who he was adeptly. It takes skill to pull that kind of stunt off. I loved it.

awww...I loved this. Very touching. Very well-written. I loved the fact that he focused to mainly on children, and giving them a better life. Probably because of his own childhood, and his ability to identify with their own lived --- and also maybe his loss at losing his children, and his murder of the Jedi younglings -- a sort of penance for a lonely, worn-away Anakin Skywalker.
Great fic!

*breathes* Oh, Anakin.
I like the story; I like Mertt. I like "the gift of a childhood," and I think Anakin knew very well what he was giving. I like the touch that Mertt was too familiar with death to suggest Anakin wasn't really dying, but tells us that, because it will make his own audience feel what he was living without making it the focus. I like that the title is for both of them.
I see that some people read this as Anakin never becoming Vader, and I could see that -- see the AU departing after RotS, and this being all those years later to put it in the post-RotJ period. But what I thought, when I read it, was that the scars were the ones we saw when he had the helmet off (and many others) -- I thought of it as Anakin surviving RotJ. I don't know whether he spoke with Leia, whether he faced the Rebels/New Republic, whether he had a trial or simply faded away. I thought he had left and gone to a place like his oldest home, and the fever was his funeral pyre.

I actually teared up at this. It was beautiful. It was heartbreaking. It was almost as if Harper Lee wrote a Star Wars fic. I've never said that about any other fic here and thought it about only a few. Congratulations. This is golden. Keep writing...and may the Force be with you.
