Oh... *shiver* I started worrying in the scene just before that the girl would end up dead, and then she did.
I have to admit, while I've really enjoyed some mentor/student romances and I really feel for these two, I think the Jedi would generally be right to come down especially hard on Master/Padawan "relations" as you put it -- between the authority issues, and the fact that padawans are generally adolescents and the Masters pretty much have to have at least ten years on them. (I could see somebody writing them in a cultural setup where that sort of thing is part of what a mentor teaches, and I'm sure somebody has, but it's not the impression I get either from the movies or your story.) But I can imagine, even without a great deal of detail, the intensity of emotion, of the bond and of combat, and why they would do this; I can imagine her Master's guilt if he ever knew he'd left her alone and with a child to care for; I can understand her mourning and determination, her love for the child as her child and as part of him, her holding to the experience, and certainly her wondering what the Council would have done and not wanting to think of dealing with that on top of everything else.
