So at what point did Mara die? Or was she dead the whole time and I just missed it?

Totally speechless.
It was only when I was three quarters through that I realized what was really happening - and I gasped aloud. I reread it and felt my throat go all choked up.
Flawless!!!
I LOVED the line about Qui Gon's comment about Luke penetrating the plane - so beautifully in character, in universe, not heavy handed, so perfect.
what makes it hurt so much is that I could actually see it happenign. This is absolute perfection!!!

What can I really say about a piece like this? Nothing that will tell how passionately I admire the simple grandeur of your prose. Nothing that will convey how deeply it touches me. Nothing I say can really express that peculiar mix of emotional pain and artistic joy I get every time--every single time I read Disengage.

This is wonderful.
It's so heartwarming when you realize what's going on... no, actually it's heartwarming throughout, even when you think she's divorcing him (although, to be honest, I was like "why the @&*# she keep saying 'I'm leavin' for if she keep showing up at his place! leave then!").

I didn't catch on that Mara was dead until the very last part. I thought her actions were a bit peculiar at first, but knowing Luke and Mara, nothing was really normal.

When I finally finished reading, the shock just slammed into me - I went back and reread it, and suddenly it made perfect sense.

Wonderful, excellent job here. *applaud*

Wonderfully written, Diva! I had a feeling about Mara when I got about to the middle with the way she kept on popping in and out, but I didn't really know until they were watching Ben chase the insect. Then, I re-read it and cried.
