Oh Jane, that was so enjoyable! When I came
upon the end so abruptly, I kind of blinked for
a moment and then it clicked what Qui-Gon has said.
So I went back and re-read it, and got the line about
the thorns. :)

That was wonderful. I haven't much time for reading
(or writing) anymore, but I'm glad to have had a moment
to stumble onto I Refuse. :)

I noticed something noone else seems to have noticed. Your use of the word 'absolom'. In the Bible, Absolom was a prince who got caught on a thorny branch by his long hair.

Nice parallel. I liked the story too. It wasn't laugh out loud, but it brought a smile to my face.

I don't know if the parallel was intentional, but Star Wars is full of parallels.

Great idea, great writing, great scene.

Top marks for Jane Jinn! Qui-Gon is my favorite character, and his view of the Council as an advisory body rather than a rigid command structure (which IS the correct interpretation of the Jedi Code) is one of the main reasons for that.


I'm writing a set of fictions about an order similar to the Jedi, and the focal character has a lot of Qui-Gon's qualities; one of his biggest challenges will be to keep the "Advisors" from becoming as the Old-Republic Council was. While those stories will be more serious than this, your dialog reinforced my own ideas, and the punch line definitely made my day.
