This story is beautiful. The purity of the characters and the simplicity of the storyline lend themselves to a lovely moment between Luke and Ben. I'm glad to see someone taking their relationship to this level.

Thank you, Mcily! You make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I didn't think my story was that good. Thanks for the self-esteem boost. I hope the rest of my planned stories please readers as much as this one.

A wonderful depiction of the anxiety parents often face in deciding what and how much to tell their children. Very nice.

The charectors here seem very natural in their actions and words, and it seems to retain the innocence of an eight year old as well as the wisdom of a father... wonderful fic!

That was nice. What's Luke going to say when Ben asked how he met mom? How it was hatred at first sight? LOL... Can Mara ever not look like a hypocrite? They are going to have hard time raising that kid. They are pretty dyfunctional, but luckily the whole galaxy is dysfunctional along with them!

Good job!

I like "realistic" fan fiction. Somewhat of a paradox to say a thing like that, it means the story is believable and fits in with canonical Star Wars (EU). As of late, I've seen several different, smaller stories that tackle some minute point that might otherwise be overlooked. This topic, telling Ben Skywalker of his origins, is something I had thought about only briefly and quickly put to rest in the heat of the Yuuzhan Vong conflict.

A small story like this says more than so many longer ones. Moriah isnt trying to write a "what if" that doesn't make any sense. Instead, we are given a glimpse of something I hope to see in post NJO novels. So often, the hero of a story is as strong as steel and as tough as nails. All too often, the burden of being the hero is overlooked; what does it mean to be a Jedi in a galaxy where the dark specter of a Jedi was the most feared being in the galaxy? Adding this element of depth puts an entirely spin on Luke and on his son. Ben is not a character now; Ben Skywalker is more an artifact, lacking a personality due to infancy. One must wonder about the future for another grandson of Darth Vader. Bravo on a top notch fanfic.

I have to say after reading this I come away feeling very satisfied. The emotions are very real and written in a way that enables me to easily invision what is happening. George Lucas himself should take some pointers from you.

Best wishes for your other stories.

Sweet! Lets you see the other side of Luke - the father, not the warrior who spends all his time saving the galaxy. And the characterisation is perfect. :*)

The characters are natural in their actions and the story presents us with a new situation, one we all have thought about sometime I guess, what will it say in the history books and what will people tell their kids about the War? A bizarre situation with a virgin birth, a Darth Vader and a hero with an evil father and wife. The story is great telling, just as the films it shows us the connection to our Galaxy and we can identify ourselves with the characters even though the whole world is so much different. A short fic, but a great one!

A wonderfully realistic story. I wish the novels would include more 'family' moments such as this. Ben will surely encounter the senseless cruelty of other children, formed by the opinions of jealous parents, as he grows up. Luke's characterization as a loving, understanding, and protective father was perfect. I only hope Mara is as understanding when she finds out he told Ben their story.

Very nicely written, and realistic emotions and attitudes. The scene touches on all the relevant points of the tribulations of parenthood and dealing with the protection of children from the world around them.

Luke is typically acting on his feelings without consultation - I hope he survives this one... ;)

I'm not sure whether I can actually see Mara and Luke raising Ben in this kind of an environment (i.e. non-Jedi institution), or not exposing him to the truth from the get-go, as part of a Jedi openness philosophy (no shame or fear of the past, living your life and trusting the Force, etc.). But in the context of the backstory - very real and moving.

Hi, I'm back. I just can't stay away. I'm very impressed by the volume of comments on my story; I've seen other good stories with hardly one to bear. What all of you have read is often the product of excruciating rewrite after rewrite--I am my own worst critic. I get easily influenced by other author's good material, published or fan-derived. But I always try my best to stay as realistic as possible--or at least as realistic as you can get with lightsabers and hyperdrives and aliens. The characters are true human beings to me; I usually practice going over dialogue again and again to make sure what they're saying doesn't sound unspeakably stupid (obviously G. Lucas didn't bother to do this for his latest two installments). I don't real well into the deeper meanings of books, but I always try to understand the motivations of the SW characters and my own as if I could borrow their brains for a minute or two. I also try to avoid typecasting without making them seem too ambiguous.
Perhaps unfortunately for you, stellrtkd, I am writing an AU story--but don't fret. One of the reasons my work often stalls is because of my painstaking effort to include all contingents of the established EU that would or wouldn't change. My current story takes place immediately after Return of the Jedi, and I haven't been able to get anywhere because I'm still searching to make sure if the New Republic had a major base of operations one year after Endor. I'm finding out they moved around a lot then. I'll try sifting the X-Wing material next.
As for my characterization, I'm actually not too sure how I pull that off. I just do. I'm too young to know the responsibilities of parenthood (I've never even had a boyfriend) but I guess I'm taking from the experiences of my mother and the trouble she's had raising me. I wasn't an easy kid to deal with; I had a sheltered childhood. Most of my stories wind up rather depressing because of the hardships we go through.
I'm very glad to know I got off on the right foot with all of you. I hope I can be as good as FernWithy one day. Thanks for now.

Brilliant, i've been stalking around Fanfiction websites for ages trying to find a nice story about Ben Skywalker, hurray I found it!!!
What is even better is that that damnable Yuzzan Vong war is over by the time Ben is eight, I hope that does happen.
I love seeing Luke interact with his son, you just want to shoot those Star wars authors sometimes for making the kid's grow up appart from their parents. Once again thanks for writting a great story like this

This was such a beautiful, enchanting story! Your portrayal of Luke was spot-on.

Truly, what WOULD Luke Skywalker say to his son about this topic?

I loved how you wrote Luke's character, of him being thoughtful and kind and tender towards his son. I love the ending! "S'long as Threepio's not telling it." ROFLMAO!! Just what an eight-year-old would say concerning the droid.

Awesome job! I hope to find more of your stories on this site! If I don't, PLEASE write more!!
