A powerful piece indeed. Shows that not all casulties of war are soldiers. I could almost the wife's pain as she tells the story.

Deep, powerful, and extremly well written. I liked how she talked to herself as the letter was being read in the background.

Very moving. Although, if I were to nit-pick... T.I.E.'s don't have torpedos, ha-ha. Very good story.

Excellent! It is a powerful reminder that the true heroes in any war are not only the Generals or the Majors, but rather the ordinary soldiers on the battlefield, some of whom returned, and others, who never saw the light of day again. And we must remember these people who gave their lives valiently for the rest of us, and have a place in our hearts for their families who were never reunited again.

"We are the Dead. Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields."
-- In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

This excellent story gave me the shivers. I particularly like the beginning, where the lines from the letter where mixed in with the narrative in short, chopped bits that made the pain and grief seem to sink in. Bravo!
