I still love this story, after rereading it a few times - beautiful work, and it really encompasses the character of Vader in a relatively short story. Love this: "You hate with more passion than most men can love."

Very glad to see this in the archive!!!

I love this vignette even more each time I read it. You portray the nature of the relationship between Vader and Palpatine so perfectly - and so eloquently. I'm glad to see this in the Archive where it belongs.

This is by far one of the best Palpatine and Vader vignettes I've ever read. The wording is just too lovely to express and the metaphors is poetic...thank you for sharing!

I love this. It's such a wonderful insight into Vader's relationship, if I can call it that, with Palpatine. You really bring us right into Vader's mind, and he comes out of it more to be pitied than censured.

I liked the point that Vader is as much Palpatine's creation as anything else, and I liked this:

"Because you hate so ardently, my young friend," he says softly. "You hate with more passion than most men can love."

That's fantastic and chilling and just plain perfect. Great stuff!

Can't belive this has been here a year and I missed it!

I love the way this combines both a rather suspenseful question -- don't we all want to know exactly why Palpy saved him? -- with a deep and powerful truth.

I usually avoid vigs like the plague because it's so hard to find one that really shines. This one does.

Nice work. Palpatine's reason for saving Vader really cuts to the heart of the matter and just... fits.

I also like the odd way Vader is wrestling with the debt of gratitude he owes his master for his life, something no Sith would really want to contend with. Odd to say, I'd never thought about how that might affect Vader.
