Fault
A review of I Stand Alone

By : Rogue 8

I Stand Alone is a story written the same way Last Hope was, in a collection of the thoughts of Obi-Wan after Star Wars Episode III.

He blames himself for how he mistreated Anakin, he blames himself for destroying Amidala's character by destroying Anakin, he blames himself for having to take baby Luke from baby Leia, he blames himself for ruining Luke's Jedi career, and he blames himself for not listening to Qui-Gon and Yoda about the boy Anakin.

In short, he thinks he single-handedly ruined the galaxy. Well, he was wrong. Everything thing wasn't his fault.

Anakin's case was special. Though he might have gone about it the wrong way, it isn't entirely his fault. The Jedi during the decline and fall of the Old Republic were too strict. You can't take love and emotion completely away from somebody's life. In Luke's way of running the Jedi, they are allowed to show emotion, and to marry.

Amidala says to Obi-Wan, "If Anakin could help create something this perfect, then there had to be some good left in him." This alone shows that she was not completely crushed because she can think of a good thing to say.

Leia and Luke were cases wear Obi Wan was only doing his duty. Even if it is painful, why would he blame himself for that?

In Yoda and Qui-Gon's cases, they were being too strict to both Obi-Wan and Anakin. A good fic that shows the problem with the strictness is LLL's In the Best Interests of the Child.

Even though everything wasn't Obi-Wan's fault, remember that he did do some wrong, and he made some bad decisions in hard times, decisions that brought a non-violent aftermath to a PG rating.
